I had decided that I despised that pocket watch of Gideonâs as we landed in the middle of a fire-lit tunnel. My stomach swirled with the temptation of vomiting the second I steadied my feet, but I swallowed down the feeling. Gideon left without another word, traveling back with a pop for the rest of the team. I turned around, resting my forehead against the cool stone as I tried to get the room to stop spinning.
Eoghan leaned against the wall, his shoulder beside my head. âYou are taking that time better than your first jump.â
âAm I? Because I feel as though I am going to pass out while simultaneously getting sick this time,â I whispered, my voice echoing off the wall in front of me.
âYou will get used to the feeling.â Eoghan chuckled. âI have something for you.â
Turning my head, I let my temple rest where my forehead had just been. âYou got me a present, General.â
âThink of it as a training ribbon.â Eoghan reached down to his hip, where a throwing knife was sheathed away in his armor. He held it up, the shiny metal blade showing me my reflection as I took in its beauty. The handle was a deep brown color, with runes carved down the center. It was the most breathtaking weapon I had ever seen.
I reached up, running a single finger over the carvings. âWhat do they mean?â
âNà neart go cur le chéile,â he whispered, the words rolling off his tongue like a lullaby. âThere is no strength without unity. I know it is cliché, but in the Games, the team will be the only ones you can trust.â
Wrapping my hand over the one that held on to the bladeâs handle, I peered up at him through my lashes. âItâs a beautiful reminder. None of us can win this without each other. I couldnât have prepared for this without you, Eoghan, and I know I still have many more sunrise lessons before I have the ability to fully hold my own against one of you. Thank you for not giving up on the stubborn mortal.â
Eoghan nodded, his throat bobbing. The popping sound of Gideon returning had me flying back from the Generalâs touch, putting some distance between us. Sylas and Embryss stepped away from Gideon, both looking as if the jump had not phased either of them in the slightest. I pursed my lips at that, folding my arms over each other in annoyance.
He reached forward, pulling at the knife sheath attached to my armorâs left hip, and slipped the weapon into its new home. Clearing his throat, he turned his attention to the two females in front of him. Sylas grinned, the corners of her lips stretching from ear to ear as she watched Eoghan and me.
âThey do look cozy, donât they, Sy?â Embryss purred, throwing an arm over Sylasâs shoulders and leaning into her. I rolled my eyes at them as their gazes narrowed on me. The final pop sounded around us, revealing that Lochlan and Theo had arrived in the tunnel.
